Work
This site brings together essays, research manuscripts, books, and educational projects. Its central concern is how signs, purposes, recognition, and rules become stable human institutions.
All of the work rests on the theory of abstraction: understanding begins with distinction, and every concept — mathematical, economic, legal, or religious — can be taken apart into basic abstractions and rebuilt. The same approach runs through the teaching of mathematics and physics, economic theory, the philosophy of law, and the reading of scripture.
